What is it?

Chiari [Kee-AR-ee]:is a malformation (most generally genetic) of the back of the cerebellum. Chiari is thought to be caused by a small posterior fossa (depression on the inside of the back of the skull near the base, where the cerebellum is normally situated). The crowded cerebellum pushes against the brainstem and/or the foramen magnum blocking off CSF (Cerebrospinal fluid) to the brain and/or spinal canal, causing all sorts of neurological problems. The symptoms list is quite lengthy, but the most common symptom is pounding, sub-occipital headache, which as some of the other symptoms, it doesn't respond to any normally successful therapies. . Chiari is also associated with other disease processes or conditions including: Syringomyelia,Scoliosis, Tethered Spinal Cord, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, and Pseudo-Tumor Cerebri, etc.
